  1. Unlace the sandal until you get to the buckle.
  2. Make sure you have the heel sleeve oriented the right way: the interior side of the heel sleeve is the soft brown side, and the interior side of the lace is the side that touches your skin (with the stainless steel stitching).
  3. Place the heel sleeve and lace end-to-end to ensure the heel sleeve is properly oriented to be routed onto the end of the lace.
  4. Insert your pliers through the first heel sleeve: poke the pliers through the slot closer to the middle so they come out the slot at the end of the sleeve, toward the lace tip.
  5. With the pliers, grab the lace tip and pull until the lace makes its way through the first slot.
  6. Grab the tip of the lace and pull it through this first slot until it sticks out about 2–4 inches.
  7. Repeat for the second slot: insert the pliers through the last slot toward the middle, grab the lace tip, and pull the lace through.
  8. Slide the heel sleeve down the lace until it is about 1 inch from the buckle.
  9. Reassemble the sandals.
  10. Make final adjustments by centering the heel sleeve to your heel position.
